Beginners

Mike Mills returns to filmmaking with his sophomore feature Beginners, the story of an aimless designer, Oliver, played by Ewan McGregor. His father, played by Christopher Plummer, finally comes out of the closet after Oliver's mother dies, but soon finds out that he is also dying.  While Oliver is trying to put his life together, and help his father rediscover himself, he meets and falls in love with Anna, an actress, played by Melanie Laurent. Olivers life becomes quite a balancing act, but what he learns out of all of this is what will change his life forever.

Beginners is a truly amazing film. It always seems sincere, never fake, and it makes you feel love, forgiveness, compassion, empathy and a whole host of other emotions that good filmmaking should . It is one of my favorites of the year so far, and I highly recommend it.
